How We Arrived Here
We worked like crazy in our careers during weekdays and opened our house to friends for eating and drinking on weekends. Kim filled the plates, Johnny filled the glasses and those friends filled our hearts. We knew we would miss our community, but also that we would have to change the weekday routine so we would still be young and vital enough to enjoy the adventures we planned for retirement. Much effort was expended considering how we could hit our exit ramp early and where we might relocate. Portugal checked the most, and most important, boxes for us.

My Cocktail Mind
Mission
The My Cocktail Mind project gives purpose to our retirement, enabling us to give back to our new home country by helping the cocktailing community as well as orphanages. It also helps scratch that exploration itch. This project was launched to promote the skilled folks behind the bar who bring their passion, skill, and commitment to hospitality to their patrons. Our hope is that they benefit professionally and financially from this exposure. We will also strive, with the help of our viewers, to raise funds that will be shared with Portuguese orphanages to help children overcome a challenging start to life.
How it Works
Johnny & Kim will explore Portugal to find bars that have earned the "craft" label. This means they will have signature, original cocktails, utilize fresh and seasonal ingredients, and prepare their own infusions and syrups. Our visits will include a brief chat with owners and lead bartenders to learn about them, their bar, and their approach to making cocktails. We’ll share a drink and a conversation that will be documented and shared with you. The interviews and photographs will be available on YouTube, our podcast, and social media.
